Been out the last three days and the crew have done very well for themselves. We have been wrestling big Kingies up, as well as hauling in plenty of great table fish including Pearl Perch, Snapper, Pig fish and Trag. We have even managed a few Amberjacks. Give me a call on 0400 946 066 to get out amongst it! Oh, and there are PLENTY of Humpback Whales about too! Cheers, Doug.

Conditions were just perfect and the Hoodlums were about. We went one from three today with the biggest measuring 1.28m and weighing in at 14.9Kg. These beasts sure can pull. A big Mack Tuna of 91cm taken on the troll, as well as some bonito for sashimi and some lovely snapper (all but one between 60-70cm) rounded out the day. Oh, there were also small AJ’s thrown in there as well!

Today we had a group of 9 on board helping Salvador celebrate his Bucks Day. I normally dont have that many people on board as it is impossible for everyone to fish at the same time, however the guys were all well aware of this and were prepared to wait for their turn.

The instructions that I was given are as follows – We are having a party tonight and we need to feed 25-30 people…. A pretty daunting challenge indeed! So whilst we watched pods of whales swimming 100m from our boat, we landed 17 Beautiful Dolphin fish and were back home by mid day. There were some big ones there with the AVERAGE size being 1m in length, and we still lost a few.

Thanks to Salvador, Phill, Simon, Rob, Owen, Daniel, Darran, Jorge and Sam for a great morning, and I hope to have you all back again soon.

The wind was up a bit today and that made fishing wide too difficult. We braved the elements and hit the 32 fathom line and grabbed a quick dozen dollies, and then shot back inside the shelter of Cape Byron to avoid the Southerly. We ended up coming home with a great mixed back of 30 odd fish, including one thumping Venus Tusk (Parrot) Fish that went 56cm (Great fish Danny!) Angler of the day goes to Tremayne who was celebrating his 12th birthday with his mum Stephanie. This young man was an absolute gun on the rod, and out-fished everyone on board! We had great fun with heaps of Kingfish about, and even cast to three that followed hooked fish and watched them take the bait, and caught them as well. Congrats to Joe, Tremayne, Stephanie, Callum, Ethan and Danny on a job well done. Hope to see you all again soon. Doug 0400 946 066

Friday we had Clinton, Sam, Chris and Dean on board, and today we had Kim, Simon, Jesse & Joshua.

Big Dollies reigned supreme, but Jesse landed a beaut Snapper today and we hope this is a sign of things to come. The ocean was like glass and the whales are about. Amberjack, Kingfish, Pearl Perch and other reef fish were also landed (and many were released to fight another day).
We are back out again tomorrow so look out for my next post.
Doug

(PS – Happy Birthday Simon!)

The Ocean was like glass with hardly a breath of wind. We started out with a bit of light tackle action and loaded up on tasty dollies, however the boys on board wanted a bit more of a challenge as they thought it was “too easy” to catch the Dolphin fish!

We ventured out a bit wider and after a bit of searching and persistence we received the dividends. We came home with 37 fish for the trip; which between 6 anglers is a good result. Fish of the day goes to young Luke for the mammoth effort he did to wrestle up a fine Amberjack from the depths. Peter got a great Snapper, and Kiwi Greg was reminded of home with Snapper and a nice Kingfish (OK, We know it is not up to NZ standards!). Graham got a great mixed bag, and Ken & Peter caught their fair share as well.

It truly was amazing on the water today and was topped off with the sighting of a free swimming hammerhead shark, and then our first Humpback sighting of the season. Congrats to all on a job well done and I hope to have you aboard again soon!
